Selling research in RA discussion sections through English and Spanish: An intercultural rhetoric approach

Discussion (and/or other closing) (DC) sections of research articles in English-medium journals are difficult to write, especially when English is not a first language. This intercultural rhetoric explores whether greater effort made promote than Spanish. I drew ten pairs comparable DC from the EXEMPRAES (exemplary empirical and Spanish) Corpus. systematically annotated these for their communicative functions, and, time, my annotations were validated by article authors, themselves. Additionally, used an online survey understand authors' promotional behaviour. innovative mixed methodology confirmed that social scientists study more Authors highlighted positive aspects studies applications results. In contrast, Spanish authors neutral, focussing largely on statements contribution relevance zeitgeist. Revealing how different levels culture (unstated communication principles, knowledge areas, socialisation processes assessment policies) affect inclusion specific functions demonstrates scientists’ approaches complex merit further attention.
